FREE BASICS/INTERNET.ORG/NET NEUTRALITY

FREE BASICS/INTERNET.ORG/NET NEUTRALITY: Internet.org is a partnership between social networking services company face book and six companies ( Samsung, Ericson , mediatech, opera software, Nokia and QUALCOMM) that plans to bring affordable access to selected Internet services to less developed countries by increasing efficiency, and facilitating the development of new business models around the world by providing  the Internet access for free. It is definitely a very good Idea to provide internet to poor people so that they can connect to the world and explore opportunities for their growth through internet.
Connectivity is human right but, it has been criticized for violating Net neutrality, and by handpicking internet services that are included, for discriminating against companies not in the list, including Face book’s rivals. In May 2015, Face book announced that the Internet.org Platform would be opened to websites that met its criteria. Internet.org users could access (for free) only a few websites, and Face book’s role as gatekeeper in determining what websites were in that list was criticised for violating net neutrality. People has to pay to other sites that are not in the list of free access by internet.org. This leads to a discriminating hand for the other websites there by indirectly favouring some.
In September, the app delivering these services was renamed Free basics. For more details please click here
